AUSTIN, Texas, Feb. 19, 2006 We went to a benefit dinner and wine auction tonight. The theme was the movie Casablanca. FFP and I dressed up like Rick in the movie. A young friend of ours did a good imitation of 40's dressing with gloves and a fancy, long dress. Everyone else seemed clueless about why FFP had on a white dinner jacket. I mean it is February and it was freezing outside. But he did a perfect imitation of Rick's outfit. Well, almost. Rick had a straight-collared shirt but it looked to use like he had buttons, not studs. FFP wore a tux shirt and black cummerbund and had studs. But he found a tux shirt in his collection that had a regular, not stand-up, collar. I wore tux pants and a white dinner jacket we got at a costume shop or some place and a tux shirt. I had on my Cole Haan tuxedo pumps. |

Anyway, I liked the idea of dressing like the Blue Parrot. And I'm always up for a little 'girl does tuxedo wear.' It's a cool look, I think. Why is men's wear is so classic and women's fashion always changing? I ignore it and wear simple, classic stuff. Even when I don't go with the tuxedo pants and the whole unisex look, I'll just wear a sparkling top I've had for years or some plain black velvet pants and top. I'm never looking to make a statement. I just want to 'get away' with whatever I have on being counted as somewhat appropriate. And I want it to be comfortable. And, yeah, I spend a lot of my time in sweatpants and a T-Shirt. But I can 'pass' at a black tie event when I have to do it. |
