FISH HOEK, Cape Peninsula, South Africa, September 28, 2005 — Today was a day to walk in the neighborhood. Fortunately it is a beautiful place to walk.

My hostess isn't feeling well so it's great that it's a short walk to the beautiful beach. I wander around some of the shops, walk along the catwalk, watch the Japanese tourists. They are tossing French fries in the air and getting their friends to capture them with the digital cameras with the seagulls diving for the greasy treats above their heads.

I go back to my friend's apartment and find her doing envelope stuffing for one or her charities even though she isn't feeling well. I offer to help but she says she has it under control. I get some coffee and settle in reading.

Sue comes by and asks what I've been doing. She wonders if I'd like another walk. You bet. She drives me to her house and we get her giant dog (a combination African ridgeback and something else) and her house guest joins us and we take a walk in a wetland preserve.

It's beautiful here and I love walking. What a wonderful place to do it.
