I've
been thinking a lot about Jenny and the kids lately and the whole motherhood
thing...this is Jenny on Mother's Day last year (2001) being feted as
'queen for the day.' I'm noone's mother and, in my old age, I may regret
this unless my nieces take an interest in my old self. I told you that
Thou Shalt Honor thing was depressing.

bamboo, books, and planning a trip I clean up some more bamboo this morning. It is sort of a never-ending task. Anyway, the exercise feels good. I rush around to clean up and pick up my dad for lunch. We swing by and get SuRu (whose car is in the shop) and go to Mirabelle. I'm thinking about a Reuben sandwich. I get one with a small salad to start. Dad gets the same except with fries and SuRu gets a hacked chicken salad. One thing I dreamed about doing when I retired was going to Barnes and Noble and sitting there in the coffee shop, reading through books for free. Dad and I go there and he buys us some coffees and he looks through books on Germany and one on Frankfurt while I look at Berlin ones. I have lots of books but most of them are old. A decade old. For Berlin especially...lots has happened. After we have scanned through them all and I've written down a couple of things, we put them all back and then wander through the bargain books. Thus fortified with fun, I attack some last details of the cancer insurance claim at Dad's and take it home and copy a few more things and FFP kindly puts it in a box and goes off and FEDEXs it to the company. One more thing done. Or at least started. I have the leftover tuna salad and some cereal for supper. In retirement I think that I eat less but perhaps it isn't true. I certainly seem to be more active physically. But, no, I don't seem to be losing weight! I'm planning a trip to Colorado. On Saturday! I'm retired. This is the sort of thing I can do. I promise myself I'll make packing lists for this and for Berlin in the morning. And I sit and watch TV (Monk and CSI) and read papers and doze. I clean some black beans and put them to soak. It is certainly easier to find time to cook and clean up after cooking when retired. |
