BRONXVILLE, New York, July 11, 2005 — We get up pretty early. Even though we've agreed that won't go to the city until after most of the morning rush. We talk to our friends, see Leslie off to work and then walk down to the village and around a bit before getting tickets and catching a train some time after nine.

It is thirty minutes into the city. We are in one of the new cars with automatic displays and announcements. Soon we are emerging from Grand Central Station like so many millions before us.

We head straight for MOMA and are soon being corralled with hundreds of others queuing for the

new MOMA. Once the museum actually opens, the line moves pretty fast. We go inside and enjoy the new building and a bunch of new acquisitions and nicely displayed parts of the collection.

As hunger comes we decide to walk up to the East Side and go to an old favorite, a French bistro called Orsay. The food is delicious (I have mussels and fries and FFP has a stunning ceviche with melon I get to taste).

Then we head for the tiny and wonderful Crawford Doyle bookstore. We buy a new Artwise Manhattan map and a book because we always show our support for the great independent booksellers. This tiny store always seems to have only books we already have or would really like to have.

Then we walk further north to the Neue Gallery. I've been reading about it for a while in The New York Times. It is small and accessible. We are able to completely take in the paintings and furniture. We are surprised at the number of Klimts in this collection.

We have been walking and stuff for a while. I suggest we take a cab back to Grand Central. FFP snags one on Fifth. I consult the little pocket timetable. We can probalby easily make a train. We find the track number, the track and head back to Bronxville.

We get freshened up and hang around a while and our friend Leslie comes home. We go to a little cafe called Kraft and have a nice meal. Then it's bed. We will drive tomorrow but not so very far.
