AUSTIN, Texas, Apr. 2, 2005 — I don't know what it is but I haven't felt like i had time to relax lately. Maybe it was that we attended SXSW film so relentlessly and then my dad has been ailing. Today, though, I feel pretty good about just kicking back. We struggle out of bed and have coffee and I get a shower. I talk to Dad and he seems to be doing OK.

We go downtown to the prelim party for the Arts Festival. It's cool and sunny. We wander around, looking at art, getting food and drinks. (Alcohol at this hour! Yikes!) We see the gal that gave us the freebies. She says that Pineapple

Girl will be along after a while. We see other people we know, look at art, talk to artists. Forrest finds some inspiration for his multimedia painting that he's planning and I find some inspiration for my possible digital photography projects. We meet up with the gal who gave us the tickets again and with Pineapple Girl and her family. We hang around the VIP food and drink and then decide it's time to go.

We decide to rescue some of our plants from Dad's glassed-in porch and we drive both our cars over. Rather than get the seat out of the van, we load some up in both cars. We get most of them. One is too large without using the van and one looks awfully heavy. I tidy up a few things at Dad's and go home and unload the plants and we arrange them around the yard and then we clean up the driveway and weed the gravel around the front bed. This feels like a lot of work actually and between that and the sun I'm kind of weary although I notice that I feel strong when I do stuff like this. Working out in the gym prepares you for things like bending and stooping and using the hoe and sweeping and lifting. But it also takes up time so you have more trouble getting to these chores.

We talk to a friend we haven't seen in a long time. She comes over and goes to Billy's for burgers with us. We watch the basketball there until the half time of the first game. Then we go to our house and watch some more. FFP gives our friend a foot rub and she gives him one. Her husband comes by after his golf game. They go home after the first half of the second game. We move to the bedroom. FFP conks out right away. I stay up watching TV shows off the DVR for a while. Then sleep.
