AUSTIN, Texas, Mar. 2, 2005 — It is raining during the night. I hear it and think 'no way Dad will swim in this.' I have agreed to pick up my aunt at the airport. With water aerobics canceled, I figure I'll get a workout first but I end up just taking care of some things around the house and showering and dressing. I get out to the airport after the plane has landed but I find my aunt shortly after she's made the restroom and found her bag. I take her to my dad's and he gets out a rotisserie chicken and some bread and butter and jam and serves it with some sliced tomatoes. My aunt and I eat.

We spend the afternoon having coffee, playing a domino game called Spinner. Must be a game of luck because I can't win it.

I head home and Forrest and I get ready to have a dinner at Jeffrey's with some friends.

Jeffrey's is a delight. We sit in Johnny's section. The sommelier, a guy we just meet tonight...Chris, recommends a Siduri Pinot Noir as a good value. It is good. Our friends come and we have a nice talk and enjoy our food. I have the foie gras as an app and some delicious Halibut and FFP and I share a cheese plate for dessert.

At home we watch a DVD of Friday Night Lights. Sleep. I must say that they captured Odessa and they captured high school football in Texas, I guess. When I was in high school, though, (1) my school wasn't really a powerhouse; and (2) integration was just limping in. Still there were excesses. Still kids pinned all their hopes on the gridiron. Heck, I think even some cheerleaders did. Not the kids in the band, though! We go to sleep.
