the sun shines

Yeah, I said it would be sunny another day.

The dreary day disappeared last night and today was bright with the occasional breeze. And there I was: on the tennis court. Losing, yes. But winning a set with my 'another Linda' partner...and that got us a point. Or the team I was substituting for, actually.

You yearn for these days. And they are nice. Especially if you don't have to work.

There is, of course, only so much sun you should get. I should have used sunscreen.

It ain't all beautiful, see?

Suspended chair...this will soon be adorning a more visible part of the yard.

JUST TYPING

In the gray winter.
You long for sun.
When it comes.
In Texas.
It's soon.
A bit too much.

Time flies....

I got up a little later than I intended. Stayed up too late, I think. Made the bed, put on tennis clothes, answered a couple of e-mails and went to the club. Said 'hi' to Dad in the water aerobics class and went to warm up with the tennis team I was subbing for. I didn't warm up or play that well and my right arm hurts because I've hit quite a bit in the last week after doing nothing. But it's fun. And one of the gals has a birthday so a bunch of us eat in the club on the patio looking at the lake.

Ah, the country club life.

I finally get home about two. Then I goof off on the computer, sitting around feeling my sweat slowly turn to a salt lick.

I keep goofing off, doing nothing useful, until it is time to shower for going out. I watched a terrible William Hurt movie. I read papers. I folded laundry and that's about the most useful thing I did.

We dined at the house of these people. The kind of people who have a beautiful, refurbed house and fix up rent houses and make great simple food, steaks on the grill, salad and potatoes, redolent with garlic. They hit us up for money for an environmental cause. We resisted.

It's a Tangled
Web we weave...these
days of our lives.

"I read mail my mother sent me in October 2001 while I was out of the country on business. She says, 'My chest really hurts.'Now I know it was probably pain in her ribs. They were x-raying her for pulmonary problems then. They didn't figure it out. But now we know."

Two years ago
"She's been feeling bad. And, I fear, giving in to feeling bad."
