take the deal

It's good advice.

We found out when we were leaving on New Year's Day that a friend of ours was going to Christopher House. Christopher House is a hospice facility with a dozen or so rooms, some pleasant public areas and a garden. Where you can be taken care of peacefully. I once read about someone who came here and then went home. But that is the very rare exception. The diagnosis is pancreatic cancer. FFP has spoken to our friend's wife and she says he 'rallies when he has visitors."

There are lots of people visiting when we arrive. They all leave shortly.

We talk. Our friend was given to tangents and jokes and kidding. The illness and/or drugs have magnified this. At one point he says, "If you ever get in a situation like this and they offer you a deal, take it."

We aren't sure if he's made a deal (or refused to make one) with a higher power or if he is just talking about agreeing to come to Christopher House.

It's good advice, though. Take the deal.

JUST TYPING

Everything is a negotiation.

Meta: I am feeling lost writing about a mere two days ago. Boy my memory is bad.

Time flies....

I wasn't up early but I got my workout in and included a lot of stuff in it. I showered at the club. We kept threatening to go for groceries. FFP finally did it. We were hanging around for workmen who did come and go. We finally changed clothes and got off to visit our sick friend. We left there in time to stop by the house and then go to a meeting. I had high hopes of reading papers but did more sleeping than reading.

Reading.

Dawn of D-Day: There Men Were There 6 June 1944 by David Howarth on the bike. This one has some fantastic stories.

"We talk about goals and retirement. About how structure has to come from somewhere and if you have a job that structures a lot of your life."

Two years ago

"It's like a dream seeing her here, in this city, and now she's gone."
