cultural link

Forrest and I try to bridge between the sub-cultures we encounter and inhabit. No niches for us. Once someone ask us 'what is your story?' Well, our story is that we like lots of different people and different activities.

We really like knowing different people. People who are all proper and full of power. People who are outrageous. People who are young, old. People talented in many ways. It doesn't matter to us about race, religion or sexual orientation. Although these differences make people interesting, assuming they aren't too strident about their lifestyle and beliefs.

As we drifted around the AGLIFF party with our friends Stuart and Bryan we were reminded of this. We found a dancer who had danced at a benefit at our house. We talked to the festival biggies and people we'd met volunteering. We saw various friends. Whether we are at a quite proper party for some mainstream organization or a big party for a gay and Lesbian film festival...we see friends. And, since it is Austin, we often see the same friends. It's a small town, Austin, in some ways. And the sub cultures are amazingly connected. Especially if the people have a shred of interest in anything called art.

My main prejudice, I think, is against people who find art and style unimportant and people who can't accept many lifestyles.

JUST TYPING

Observing Congress Avenue.
A blind man runs into a parking meter.
A car alarm blares repeatedly.
A man has a goose and is putting it in a sack.
Guys have a tripod and camera in the middle of the busy street.
All a day in the life.

Food Diary.

About 11:15pm
small original Scholtsky's sandwich

About 4:30pm
a 'half' tuna sandwich (it was half a baguette!), some tortilla chips and hot sauce

About 9:30pm
a few quesadillas and other hors d'oeuvres and two vodka tonics, part of a screwdriver

After midnight
three slices of thin bread and some pimento cheese

This was the day of the sandwich. Please! A better diet! Now.

Time flies....

Spent all afternoon and evening (actually from 11am on) downtown. FFP dropped me off. I ate at Schlotsky's and then did a little over four hours trying to run the box office for AGLIFF at the Paramount. Then I sat in Little City and ate, consumed caffeine and read. Then I met FFP and friends and went to the AGLIFF premier film and party

Reading.

From the Journals of M.F.K. Fisher. Suddenly there was a gap in the journal and her husband was dead. There were no entries reacting to Pearl Harbor in the strict journal part.

I am thinking a lot about fiction. How true should fiction be? How much should one draw on real people? Places? Events? These worries often stop my fiction in its tracks.

Exercise

Twenty-two minutes recumbent bike.

Upper body (chest, back, shoulders)..

Twenty minutes on recumbent bike.

Felt like I wanted to stay in bed but fine when I got up.
