"Delays have dangerous ends."
Shakespeare, Henry VI

It is not enough to be happy; it is necessary, in addition, that others not be.

raining on my retirement

It's raining at last. That's good, of course.

I'm not sure I had a shower today. I didn't exercise. I didn't write this entry promptly so the day has drifted away. I did finally stand before the copy machine, copying a thick batch of hospital bills for a claim against my mother's cancer insurance. It makes me sad to see all those items (disposable wash clothes, drugs, drugs, drugs, on and on) and know she had to put with with each and every one in some way. That this test was a stick or a prick, this IV in her veins, this hospital day 24 hours of relative misery. But I finally have everything together for this insurance. I don't know if we will get any money. But they will get a claim a half inch thick with pathology report, hospital bills, physcian's statement and a release signed by my dad allowing them to find out if she had HIV. I need to write a cover letter asking that the claim be paid to my Dad, I guess. There is enormous fine print in all of this. That we have accomplished anything is wonderful. It seems it will never end but my parents affairs seem as simple as one could possibly make them.

FFP and I decide to eat out. We eat at Zoot. We have a special squash soup and I have duck with foie gras. FFP has chicken which comes with a mini-pot pie. We sit at our usual table and chat up the staff. I have a couple of glasses of wine. It's a Pinot I've never had and it's tasty. FFP isn't drinking tonight. Did I mention that I drink less in retirement? I do. Really. I mean it.

It was a dull sort of day. While I displaced from copying hospital bills or making a spreadsheet to help keep up with our net income, I got the newspaper pile off the floor of my office...although some just migrated to the pile beside my chair. I cleaned off the dresser in the bedroom and the two amoires, selecting some stuff for disposal to garage sale or thrift store, andinstalled the tuner and CD player that I had at work. We probably won't use it much there but we have it so I might as well hook it up.

I must have done some calling and complaining on the ISP's WEB site today about the fact that our WEB site is down. Because I don't know if this will ever get posted in the old spot. Yep, this diary may be moving.
