picking and choosing What to do with our day when no one has a claim on it? When you can't really even think of any errands. I went to the club later than usual. (There are lots of people there. These people don't have to work either? Who knew?) I do the bike and rowing machine while reading about Santa Fe in the NY Time's Escapes section which comes on Friday. I haven't been to Santa Fe in years but I hope to remedy that soon. I use some of the weight machines and head home. In a tribute to my new mantra of getting one thing done every day, I change some light bulbs and trim Asian Jasmine off the shed. I pull up a few volunteer trees in a planter. In my own beautiful yard. (Well, it needs some work. But it's beautiful, it's mine and I have time to spend in it. The bugs are biting, however.) I accomplished things, too. I did. I can't exactly think of them. Maybe I got some of the papers sorted out. Maybe I filed some stuff. I know I downloaded pictures for Forrest's column. I know I sent an e-mail to a couple of pals. Note to self: write down accomplishments! I played tennis with the fun people at Westwood in the evening. They call it "Margarita Mixed Doubles." Yes, they drink Margaritas while playing. Only we didn't play mixed. We played Ladies (and Mens) with a pro on each court. Each person played one set with the pro. My accomplishments? I didn't double fault. (Good thing...everyone on every court was supposed to stop and drink if you did. I was drinking water, though. I'm no prude but I dehydrate easily. No alcohol while exercising.) My team won at least one game in every set. I think my set with the pro was 6-2. Without, 2-6 and 1-6. OK, I think the pro was just a young lady working in the pro shop. But she was good compared to us. We ate fajitas and stuff after. (And I had a Margarita.) Then I went home and watched most of O Brother Where Aren't Thou. Hey, that's a good one...why hadn't I seen it? Now that I'm retired.... I tried to get through some of my newspapers, too. Do I need more structure? Or is this slovenly existence to be my retirement? Oh, I hope so. Besides I just remembered...I planned a trip! A week in Berlin. Made airline and hotel reservations. And I tested my dad's phone's answering machine's remote access feature. (I found the instructions in my mom's things.) Don't say I do nothing. I do. I tested the links on my reference page. I listened to hold music when our e-mail quit working in the afternoon.
