the little things

The eXtreme dog walking team had decided to delay until Sunday any activity. I was feeling poorly. Friday had been hellishly, humidly hot unaware that it was now 'fall.'

I sleep. Until almost 8. When I get up, I feel that the cold, the malaise, all of it has lifted. Yes, my hand hurts. But I feel that's healing, too. If I ever find the time to find a brace to sleep in, I think I can cure it.

I work on little things. Organizing a single WEB page showing all the fall goings on. My business trips. My nieces coming to Austin. I get my niece's e-ticket mailed off after calling the airlines to make sure the record really shows that I've presented the credit card to verify her flying on it.

I work up three packing lists. One for each trip. My idea is to pretty much pack for each separately, having everything categorized and ready to go. The idea that I can do this comforts me and I decide that I really can make all this travel for business. Now I can simply concentrate on the projects and presentations that will (allegedly) make the trips worthwhile.

I go have lunch with my parents. I hang a few family pictures and some nostalgic shadown boxes for my mother. I convince her that all the family pictures don't have to be hung at once. And that some could use a new frame. We take a trip to Pottery Barn and buy a couple of frames and reframe a picture of all my dad's sisters and frame a couple of pictures of the new great-grandson.

I beg off more activities with Mom after showing her once again how to dial up the ISP to get mail. Actually, she is starting to understand it a bit. Some progress. I think it's good for her. She is eager to make her house look the way she'd like. She says frequently, "I haven't put the dollhouse together yet." She is a miniaturist. She has a five food dollhouse and must re-furnish it after the move just like the real house. While she hasn't done this, she has put miniature displays all over the house that are put back together. The house looks pretty lived in. I try to help her, bit by bit, get it together. I keep having to remind myself that her tastes are not mine.

I go home and fiddle with my own disorganized life. I have more stuff and not nearly as much time to pay attention to it. That may be good or bad. FFP and I have an evening of Olympics, reading, doing little things that we have been wanting to do all week. I sleep well and enjoy feeling good again.
