the all-day meeting creates hunger and desire What is it about an all-day meeting that makes me eat and drink everything in sight? I start out with some kind of pastry monstrosity and coffee. Not really in character. I move on to soda (not diet, mind you) and a pile of chips and a couple of sandwiches at lunch (no dessert, so there) and more soda and why did they have to serve caramel corn, yikes! On the ride home I can only muster the desire to drink a bottle of water! I do eat some salad or something at home for dinner. During all day meetings, I stay and pay attention and don't usually take breaks to talk on my cell phone (which I didn't even bring) and stuff. Most people are in and out. OK, sometimes I'm actually working on something else or playing mine sweeper on my Palm Pilot. Mostly I think about things I could be doing if I were at work in my office. Like straightening up my files, writing papers, studying the things I actually need to make recommendations on. This "if only I weren't here I could be doing...." effect is one that is very interesting. I get this same effect driving to work about things I could be doing at home if I weren't going to work. Clean out a closet. Sort those old slides. Build WEB pages. Backup computers. Learn to use all these programs. Rearrange furniture. Clean out the refrigerator. Clean out the garage. This same urge to do these things does not occur on the way home. For some reason.
