"Compassion is a luxury of the affluent."

Meta: I may be a little erratic in updating for the next few weeks.

One of those days when you don't shower.

One of those days when, because you haven't showered, you look scruffy but you go to Ella's and eat anyway. As a concession to your unshowered state, you sit on the patio. Jeffrey who used to work for Ray is waiting tables. Says he's going to do caberet singing now. I start thinking about all the creative wait people I know and decide to make a documentary called 'Waiting for the Muse.'

There are things I need to do. I have to go to Houston tomorrow afternoon. I should pack for Portland. I have work to do.

What I actually did was get pictures ready to send my sister, read and go out to see a movie and have a hamburger with FFP.

John Waters' "Cecil B. Demented" proved to me that while I'm unshockable I am squeamish about violence. It's amusing to see Melanie Griffith get branded and set her hair on fire, but I'm still closing my eyes and looking at it sideways. "Pecker" was much better, I think. You had to be kind of a movie insider, too, to appreciate it. And maybe a Baltimore insider. John Waters was at my house a year ago, though. I feel a certain loyalty. To make it that much more discomfiting, it was in that theater at Dobie that is decorated in an Egyptian tomb style and has not one seat parallel to the screen.

A great day, but where'd it go?
