March 4

Had a lot of fun planting the flora that I bought at Gardens yesterday.

It's no wonder why I enjoy landscaping so much. Unlike clients and most of the other people in the business world who will gleefully stab you in the back, plants don't really have an agenda.

They're perfectly happy if you put them in a comfortable spot and usually they will perform as expected. Not a bad deal at all. Furthermore, Linda is nice enough to leave me to my own devices while I'm out there messing around in the yard and she is just as happy as a lark about the results. Actually, it gives me a chance to be creative-- lot more than the ad biz does at my level of endeavor, where the clients want to dictate every move I make. I get to match up colors and shapes and sizes and then stand back and watch the results unfold. And if I don't like it, I can rip it all up. Yep, can't beat a deal like that.

We're going out with some friends tonight to eat and, I'd imagine, have some drinks at the Four Seasons. Linda and I are talking about blue goosing to New York the first weekend in May with Rebecca Ryan and her boyfriend. This will put a lot of folks to the test, especially my clients who have been urging me to take time off for the last twenty-three years. I hope that they can stand it if I'm gone.

Well, I'd better wash up and get ready to go out.
