film overload As I waited to see the first of three films of the day, I heard one young fellow say to another, "I think I know why my friend's film wasn't accepted into this festival. Too much nudity."
Well, my film wasn't accepted because I haven't written it, pitched it, produced it and directed it. Or, um, learned how to do any of those things! But too much nudity works, too. I listened in on a panel discussion that attempted to answer the question of whether one needed to go to Los Angeles or New York to succeed in the film business. I saw two documentaries. I saw an interesting but slightly tiring and self-involved black and white feature film (Dreams of Her).. It was shot in Austin and surrounding areas and it used as a backdrop at least one stop photographed by yours truly. So, looking for Austin locations was interesting. The writer/director and the female lead were there, too. We talked to the female lead's Mom before the event. She had come in from New Mexico. I also walked through the trade show. Yeah, I paid my money and I fantasized about this film business and I saw some movies. It was fun. I heard people talk about trying to make a living and break into this business. I can just dabble. And it's what I do so well. |

FFP yesterday after working on his canvases. When he decides to do something, he doesn't talk much about it. He just does it.

I got up before seven. My idea was to get to the club and do a little workout before water aerobics. I achieved it although I didn't get there as early as I would have liked. After water aerobics, I came straight home and showered and dressed and went downtown and parked in the convention center parking garage. I got there in time to go to a panel. After that I saw a documentary called Hard Straight that followed three California parolees around. Then I walked to the Alamo Draft House to queue up to see Big Enough, another documentary about dwarfs. Fascinating one since the filmmaker made a film twenty years ago and, in this one, reprised with some of the same subjects who were children then, now grown (well, matured) and with jobs, families, etc. After that movie (consumed with greasy food), I talked to the film's director a bit and then went back to the convention center and the trade show. Then I retrieved my car and went to campus and met FFP at the Dobie to see this strange black and white 'sort of' narrative film made in Austin. We were early so we stood around and talked to people who were also waiting to see the movies. After the movie, we could have gone to parties or other movies or something, I suppose, but we went home. A storm was coming in showing raindrops and lightning. We ate, did a few things on our computers and went to bed.

Should have gotten to the club earlier. Again. Should have done some abs although we sort of do some in the pool. By the way, I notice my difference in fitness when I'm climbing stairs in parking garages or walking. I walk on escalators, I feel more energetic. Still a long way to go, though.

Mood was OK. Good actually. It was fun spending a whole day away from the house, watching movies and people. Lousy diet gave me an upset stomach late in the day. |
