you're a winner I was standing at the counter in the club chatting with someone when the GM came up and said I had won a Sunday brunch for four for filling out a survey. Then I was checking out of Randall's and the clerk said that I "was a winner." I got a coupon for $3 worth of free sacks o' salad. Now this constitutes a streak of amazing luck for me. I never win anything.
My friend SuRu said this was a good enough reason to buy a lottery ticket. She also said I was already lucky in most ways. She's right. Healthy, wealthy (it's all relative, folks, at least I don't have any debt) and, well, maybe not wise. Life is just a bumbling thing anyway. I didn't buy the lottery ticket. SuRu said if I didn't buy it when my lucky streak was available, it wouldn't work. A black cat crossed in front of me on her dark street out near the lake. That was spooky given my lucky streak and Halloween. SuRu should know about these things...she just lost famously in Vegas. Maybe I'll buy a lottery ticket tomorrow anyway. |

I went to the club pretty early but my work out took a long time and I chatted and then I went to the grocery store. It was 1PM when I had the groceries in, had lunch, got in the garbage can, put away dishes. The rest of the day seemed to slip away. I thought I would conquer the newspaper pile but it merely grew. I thought I'd make some progress on getting my office in better shape, but NO! One thing I did was look at some of my plane reservations for future trips and one had flights changed and I had to call customer service. I spent a frustrating few minutes with their voice recognition. The calm voice: "I can help
you do that but I'll need some more information. Please say your Advantage
number now." Me: DE29365 The voice: DD19369? If this is correct, say yes. If not, say no. If you don't have an Advantage number say continue. Me: DE29365 The voice: OR01966? blah blah Me: No. The voice: I'm sorry. Please say your number in a normal speaking voice like this blah blah blah blah. Me: Continue. The voice: Blah blah blah...if you want an agent, say agent. Me: Agent!!! The voice: Please wait. Then a bunch of recorded crap and, finally, an agent. Who apologized for the mess with voice recognition and helped me and sent me new e-tickets and was curious to see if I could see the changes online immediately (I could). Anyway...stuff like that. And poof, I'd accomplished nothing and it was time for me to drive out to the Lakeway area to meet a friend. We went to dinner at a little place on Bee Cave way out there called Bee Cave Bistro. The food was pretty good. What with the drive out there and back, I just got in my easy chair and fell asleep reading papers and watching some CSi reruns.

year ago "I told a friend today that every time I fill the dog's bowl or make coffee, I thank my luck for fresh, potable, additionally reverse-osmosis-filtered water. Even for the dog. We are lucky. The best I can do in this world, I sometimes think, is appreciate it."
