art day Last evening I switched our DNS for lbffp.com to Roadrunner. Gradually, some mail is arriving there. The weather prevented dog walking. But it didn't stop art day. SuRu, Gayle and I met for Thai food downtown. (Thai Passion on 7th near Congress.) Then we went to the Austin Art Museum on Congress (in its temporary, sort of permanent because they can't get a building built, home). They had an exhibit of Robert Frank photographs. Robert was a depression-chronicler and a street photographer. I fancy a 'career' in street photography so I wanted to see it. They also had paintings by Alex Katz. My companions had a good time discussing whether the paintings were worthy and I enjoyed the photos immensely. There is this Texas Fine Arts place across the street. We went in on a whim to see a student art show. Some pretty good stuff, actually. I found the stripped down unfinished interior art in itself. Gayle leaves us but SuRu and I go to South Congress and wander through a couple of shops. We have a cold drink (I had a French Orangina) at Jo's. At home, I decide I need some exercise and go do 50+ minutes on the recumbent bike. I'm starting to worry that I always do this one machine but I love it because I can read. I come home and work on the e-mail switch. I have to install a new Netscape on FFP's machine. I have to change the backups some. FFP and I go to see 'Love, Valour, Compassion' at Zach. It starts (allegedly) at 7:30 only they don't start on time. It's long. It is three acts. A large man sits next to me but he leaves after the first act. Then I'm more comfortable. It's long. It's pretty good, too. All the characters are male and gay, though, and though I love males and gays I don't relate directly to everything. Indirectly, yes. Love. Valour. Compassion. One character is blind. Not easy to relate to that either. There is much male frontal nudity. Several of the men, one in particular, is very attractive naked. |
