one thing fixed I am off to the club at a reasonable hour. Timed so that I can get to a lunch date at 11:45. Lunch dates, are, surprisingly, a pain sometimes because they interrupt my loosey, goosey schedule. Ah, well. The lunch is at Suzi's Chinese Kitchen. I've never been there. It is on my street, you might say. Indeed, it's on Shoal Creek only a few miles north on the corner of Anderson. They have added a sushi bar, my companion says. A Chinese sushi bar, I guess? It's OK Chinese and my lunch partner pays. He's asking for advice on a business idea. The idea takes me a little by surprise. Not something I'd want to do, but I try to give my advice on the ins and outs of it, from the viewpoint and experience. Free advice for the price of a Chinese lunch special. And worth every penny. What to do after lunch? I try to get into some duties. I still need to clean out so many things. I'm behind on the journal. But I have to wait for a repairman to come see about the problem with static on the cable feed in the media room. (FFP has taken his parents to his cousin's funeral.) So I get together the remotes and reverify that (1) tapes play fine; and (2) cable has static. I've verified that the cable has no static if the VCR is bypassed. When the repairman comes, he offers that he could wire it so the VCR can't record but would play. This would be fine since we record on another one in another room, usually. The kid rewires it (I could have done this if I were smarter without having to move anything). I pay him too much for the house call. But at least I haven't had to buy another remote. FFP comes home. I am testing everything. Phono, tuner, CD, DVD, laser disk, tape, VCR, cable. All working. No static. Ah. FFP points out that I've messed up the setup in the front room where he does record. Oops. (I was going to change out the VCR to check it out but then saw the problem with the electric connection going into the bowels of the media center behind the thousand-pound German TV.) So, I fix that. I take two different Rabbit devices (no longer sending signals anywhere) out of the loop and simplify things. I toss these into one of the 'parts is parts' drawers in my office. I have cleaned these out recently but I really need to get rid of some of this junk.
But, it's a nice day out. I end up going for a walk with the dog around 4:30. Over to Crestmont, around by the fire station, up Burnet, back around the corner by the pet store, back through the neighborhood. Not a long walk. FFP goes for a workout. Then we eat leftover pork and chutney from the party. I drink what's left of a bottle of French champagne. FFP drinks some leftover party red we have in the frig. We watch the Monday night TV line-up. Boston Public, Third Watch, Crossing Jordan. I read a little. Somewhere in there I work the Monday crossword in The New York Times. I think they make them easier on Monday to make Mondays a better day, don't you? I got a little behind on these postings and was struggling to remember anything that I did Monday.
