view of the mountains I
like to play the game with the adults. Jack took this picture of his Mom and Jeff, both asleep after feeding.
"When feeling sad at home,
I have often boarded a train or airport bus and gone to Heathrow, where,
from an observation gallery in Terminal 2 or from the top floor of the
Renaissance Hotel along the north runway, I have drawn comfort from the
sight of the ceaseless landings and takeoffs of aircraft." |

backyards of dreams Today I take my walk along over to a park and back along the trail again. This part goes along behind people's homes. They have their middle class dreams on display...decks, grills, lawn furniture and plastic playthings for the kids. One can naigate by the mountains (west) and the satellite dishes (pointing south). Not to mention the emerging sun in the clear sky (east). We hang out with the kids and Mike while Jen goes to the dentist and stops back by the store. Jeffy gets hungry but Jack's capacity to amuse him by running around holds out. We decide to spend the afternoon with Sarah. We pack up some food for lunch and dinner and head over. Jack and I play in the backyard and I try to help him nap. He wonders when his grandfather ('Papa Bill') will come home. That finally happens after lots more play. Then he is torn between 'helping' his Papa Bill pack their van for a trip to Tucson or playing a game of Sequence with me and Sarah and her friend. (Our family always seems to cycle through the favorite game of the moment. Sequence is popular now. Oddly, we always return to Scrabble and Mastermind. Simple pursuits. Jen and Lisa learned a lot 'helping' play games. Jack takes his turn. We have a leftover dinner with chicken fajitas added. Jen has heated stuff, made guacamole. All while chasing the kids through their drills. But it's time to get the kids and us to bed. Because tomorrow we drive again. |
