the dogs and I wait in front of New World Deli

walks, homes and stuff I don't really feel like getting out of bed at 7:30 but it's the agreed on time for dog walks. I feel better once up, dressed and on my way to Hyde Park with the eXtreme team. We don't walk far before stopping at New World Deli on Guadalupe. The dogs aren't happy. They like to get a little tired before stopping. We make it up to them by walking up north of 45th through the creek bed and by the intramural field. Lots of wild scents up that way. I bought three tickets for the home tour today. FFP has since discovered that the football game will be telecast starting at 11:30. Dad comes over to visit. Just because he has nothing to do. FFP feeds us all some leftovers. I make a few calls trying to get a companion for the tour but give up after a couple. It will be more fun with just SuRu and I. This is the AIA home tour and it's all about architecture and the overblown descriptions of it. Fenestration means what? Putting in windows? And how do three story houses fail to overwhelme six hundred square foot shacks? Still, the houses were all interesting. We made it to 8 of 13 and I've seen one of the others. It was fun to see the architecture as well as the selection of furniture, accessories and paintings. One house was nice but they had nothing hanging on the walls. It was a clean look and there were interesting windows and wood details but I couldn't have resisted hanging some paintings. So in the evening. FFP had done some yard work and he and Dad had repotted some of the green plants sent to Mom's services in clay so they'd fare better. We decided to settle in and let the football fans have the run of the town. I ate a little guacamole that Forrest made from that avocado stuff packed in Mexico with some chips. I finished off the giant Wild Cherry Pepsi I bought at a Lucky Mart in South Austin after the last house we toured (which was actually an artist's studio with kitchen). We watched Training Day. I thought I hadn't seen it but I had. When? I have no idea. In a hotel on pay for view? Possible. On cable? Anyway I saw it again. OK. Never need to do that again. I prefer Ethan in Before Sunrise. Not because it's a better movie, really. Not because local boy made good Linklater directed it. But because it's calmer and no one gets shot. People just talk. I like that. |
