what's in here?

a chill falls I have to pump gas on my way to work. It's cold enough and there is a snappy wind that I whip out my muffler and gloves while it's pumping. So quite a chill. Then at work, I get the cold shoulder from some folks about a business issue and they obviously have the upper hand. I've seen this coming, but it is still a little bit of a surprise. (Well, yeah and when I had asked if it was coming they were like 'oh, no, there's nothing like that going on.' So maybe they lied and maybe they didn't figure it out.) But there is a silver lining. I don't have to go to Houston in the morning at zero dark thirty. (Good thing I was trying to save the company the price of a room by not driving over tonight or I might have been en route when I got the cold shoulder. So to speak.) But then I think, hmmm, who really has the upper hand here? Given everyone's goals and all? Duh. Man, it is cold out there. When I get home I drip the faucets. I feel like I got this huge reprieve because I don't have to go to Houston. Even though, well, yeah, it probably means my career is on the rocks. But, other than that.... And, of course, it doesn't really mean that. To them maybe. But, again, given my goals? When I'm not being stood up for meetings because people are huddling to decide how to give me the cold shoulder, I attend some technical meetings that are actually pretty fun. I attend a meeting that someone probably wouldn't have invited me to, if they knew what was going on. It is all about presenting to the new regime. Ho. Hum. My pals serve chili dogs for lunch and that's the hot highlight of the day. (They stood out in the cold and grilled the dogs.) I eat two, I admit. Should do some work this evening. But, of course, it might be for naught so I don't. I do a lot of thinking about some issues, though. A lot of puzzling over interesting technical stuff. If I were really rich, I'd pay someone to unpack, set up, charge batteries on and teach me to use new gadgets. I got one of those phones with a base and handsets that don't need phone wires. Actually, I could figure out how to answer and make calls without the book. But I couldn't do a caller id review. Forrest was at a ballet board meeting. When he got home, he wanted to go to Fonda. We had some comfort food and I worked yesterday's New York Times crossword puzzle and the owner comped us. |
