Saturday night/Sunday morning was a very special time at the Four Seasons Bar.
Last week, my friend Ann Kloepfer told
me about a concert that Tony
Award Nominee Ann Hampton Callaway was going to give here in town.
(American Airlines sponsored the event. Unfortunately, Ann had to be
out of town last night.) I bought tickets and that led to some good
things. Rebecca Ryan had actually done songs with her when Rebecca was
working at the Hotel Bel-Air in LA, so we started talking about getting
Ann down to the Bar.
Thanks to me doing some digging to find
the right contact and Rebecca
e-mailing the producer of Austin Cabaret Theater, Ann, who is the most
popular cabaret diva in the country, (her just issued CD, her eighth,
includes backup from Kenny Baron and Wynton Marsalis) showed up at the
Bar with her entourage. After some mild coaxing, she did several
numbers and brought the house down. What a range! Rebecca did a duet
with Ann on one song, too.
She also introduced a stunning local singer,
Cody Ross, and she did a
couple of tunes as well, with Ann playing piano. The singing and fun
went on until 2:00.
Great things still happen, amidst the madness.
