Sunday, if only... |
|
I sleep as long as I want. It isn't too late. I have breakfast, visiting with my buddies in the hotel. Everyone is going out for a little sight catching but no one seems to want go with anyone else, including me. I figure out where our conference will be held and how to get there using the underground passages and check out where everything is arranged. Then I walk off in the direction of the Duomo and suddenly it looms ahead. It's so striking that I immediately dive into a shop for a disposible camera. I've brought no cameras along and indeed had no use for one unless scenes in airports, hotels and offices would have been deemed entertaining. Of course, it is trite to try to take pictures of the cathedral, too. I walk around some more. Giant David (that's a strange statement, huh?) looms ahead. I wander down to the Arno (which appears fetid is a sickening greenish brown) and check out the Ponte Vecchio. I have a little lunch and ponder what the week will bring. A nap seems in order and I head back to the hotel to grab one. In the afternoon, I register for the conference and stop by the exhibits where one of my buddies has been helping all day to set things up. It's looking good so we go back to the hotel. More folks are showing up at the hotel and we have some drinks and then a bunch of us head out to dinner. We try to go someplace that someone has recommended but we get lost and just eat in some hotel dining room. The food and wine are good. I head to bed to get ready for more work. Shame because play is much more fun. Yep, that's why they have to pay you for one. |
