mental health |

The world is a strange and wonderful place. But I wasn't up to it today somehow. When I got up things had gone awry on my little Frankenstein home network. In my office things worked except they couldn't see upstairs. Upstairs things would work rarely although there was some sort of connectivity because IP addresses got assigned. I went to work for a while shaking my head over this. I did a few things and decided that I just wasn't up for work. This happens when something goes wrong and home. Especially if something isn't wired right in my head for work. I went home, had lunch, messed around with the network and finally concluded that the downstairs hub had a connection next to the uplink guy and that was causing the irratic behavior. Only before I disconnected my work machine...it actually worked. With all the ports full. Maybe. Anyway, 'a miracle happened' and FFP was back in business in his perch upstairs. Who knows how many devices had been booted, prodded and pinged before the tenous relationships were re-established. I spent the rest of my day off learning a few things about making menus from a new Dreamweaver book FFP bought me for my upcoming birthday. This (part of a) day off gave me the necessary perspective, I think. I will be ready to work tomorrow. We saw a preview of Zach Scott's next season tonight preceded by a little cocktail party with 'all the usual Zachspects.' Several of my retired friends were talking about trips or possible trips. Hmm...work. Tomorrow. Work. Think positive. Home from the event, I played some more with the tutorial project in Dreamweaver. It works better in Internet Explorer. I use only IE at work and mostly Netscape at home. It is, of course, an old Netscape. I should probably upgrade. But I like to see what my readers might see. What I might see from a distant place in a not quite up on the technology Internet cafe where the coffee is better than the connectivity. I like to make WEB pages that work OK in most browsers. But I don't worry about it too much as my work is mostly not commercial. Today, outside on the deck off FFP's office, we saw a large mouse (or a small rat?) looking around wild-eyed as if to find food or water. Are the critters from the creek bed (doubtless quite dry) coming up to visit us now? Better get some rat poison for the attic methinks. I hope it rains soon. This guy looked like one of those guys crawling through the dessert toward a mirage in the cartoons. It's amazing what just walking out on work for a few hours can do for the mental health. Vactaion coming soon. Just keep that in mind.
