paper thief and paper theories You know how much trouble I have reading and disposing of three papers on weekdays and two on weekends? Someone is trying to help me. For three days, FFP says someone is stealing either the Wall Street Journal or The New York Times. Or they aren't being thrown. The same guy throws the Times and The Austin-American Statesman. Is it one of you lurkers, trying to help me reduce the pile? Someone taking advantage of the circular drive for a quick strike theft? Maybe I'll get up and lurk myself in the morning. But probably not. More bureaucratic chasings. I think I've found a power vector. But I'm sure I'm wrong. It's all a theory. On paper. Once someone executes your plan, you might have to take responsibility for it. This might apply to me, but probably not. Because the chances of execution are small. Most things we are executing on...I find out in mass meetings. The threat of execution, though, makes one really examine one's ideas. At lunchd the people the company leases the buildings from gave a party. Catfish fry. Band. Door prizes. I didn't win anything. I'm not lucky that way. I'm lucky in more important ways than winning small electronics in drawings. In the evening a benefit for Women and Their Work. Wine from the Austin Wine Merchant including a St Emillion that tasted decidedly Burgundy with the gamey nose and round mouthfeel. (If you hang around wine folk long enough you can make this up.). Food. An auction of a couple of nice artworks. Bidding wasn't real spirited. There was a time when I would have gone for it. They were nice pieces. We have no place to put them. We are starting to look at every $1000 as $50/year in retirement. (A good bottle of wine, a few hours of a maid's time. Every year. Year after year. Well, until inflation steal's its power.) Saw a woman there who collects Eiffel Tower stuff. She said she now limited it to 1889 items. You have to have rules. I think of her often. She gave a fund-raiser for the art school at UT or something several years ago (probably three or four). They had a wonderful art lecture and a cake with a Monet painting on it. Her collection of Eiffel Tower stuff was truly impressive. Not too surprising that I remember her. But she remembered us and what party we attended. Women and Their Work is a great gallery and they have a very cool gift shot, I think, if you want to buy gifts and contribute to the arty women of the world. They need to update their WEB page, though. So many WEB pages get out of date. I can't be too sympathetic. I give you guys a new page every day. And usually a new picture and a quote. We swung by Zoot to get a copy of the menu to work on their WEB page. I'm tired. Stayed up too late last night playing with the computer. The things I had to do at work wore me out. I'm sleepy. I have a newspaper pile. (Although smaller than it could be thanks to the thief.) Think I'll read and snooze. Last night's lack of sleep sends me tonight into my easy chair for dozing, newpapers, crosswords and ER.
