promise Fridays promise things they can't always deliver. At work, I'm working on a presentation for a conference. When I get into such things, I realize that there are things I wanted to say about the topic that I hadn't even realized. I always think mine are more imformative than others I see at such conferences. With something fresh to say. But I'm sure I'm wrong about that. Went to Mom's for leftovers at lunch. Took SuRu along. The parents like us to come. We just relax for a few minutes after. I prowl around her computer to see what's going on with it, what she's been doing. Dad says he is going to plant some onions on his sharecropped strip of earth at my neighbor's house. After work, SuRu and I take Mom to Foley's in the mall to get a wedding present. We use the kiosk to print a list, she gets a place setting of dishes. She wants a new bread knife and we find one for $12.50. She thinks it is a lot of money. But it is marked $25 and is 50 percent off. They have an $70 dollar or so bread knife, SuRu says. "Don't go there," I advise. We try to buy my great nephew some little clothes. Everything Foley's has is Tommy this or Polo that and outrageously priced. I don't think so. At home, I have a nice evening. FFP made some barbequed chicken breasts and I heat one and have a glass of leftover Sauvignon Blanc. I open a 1996 French red table wine that we paid $8.25 for a couple of years ago. It's quite nice, I think. I alternate watching TV with running the jazz channel on digital cable which is playing a great selection. Of course, I read the newspapers, too. Bed again. Friday's promise will be tarnished by morning. So it goes. |
