"...everything outside the gate resembled what he had seen TV; if anything, objects and people were bigger, yet slower, simpler and more cumbersome. He had the feeling he'd seen it all."

new American opera

We both awake dreaming. In FFP's the driveway guys have finally shown up. Their Bobcat is blocking the drive. I'm in a business suit, riding around on our old riding mower, the street is flooded and I'm angry with him because I have to do it. In mine everyone is caring for some older gentlemen. We are all going to a concert. Some will listen from another room. Then Bill Clinton comes in wearing what must be a Hawaiian lei but it has what looks like a beet hanging on it. Very strange.

Work was an entire day of editing a document. It's a document about a project I'm tired of at this point. I went to my mom's at lunch with SuRu and we had this big lunch. They were getting light kits put on some of the ceiling fans. The electrician teetered on the top of a tall ladder while SuRu and I held it.

Opera. The Austin Lyric Opera opened 'Cold Sassy Tree.' A new opera by Carlisle Floyd. It has been presented in Houston so far on its premiere tour. We had some criticisms but it is a great story for opera and had some nice music and powerful voices. And, after all, you don't get to see Puccini or Verdi or Mozart trot out and take a bow. That's pretty cool.

We were going for drinks after, but the opera was so long, it was almost midnight. So we went home and had a snack.
