"It is far better to know too little than to know too much." Samuel Butler, Notebooks, 1912
dining with a view bendy mess

new employee video I was getting coffee out of the machine at work that makes one cup at a time. It overlooks the courtyard. A camera crew was setting up on the lawn. We discussed among ourselves what might be going on. Later the crew asked to visit my office. They were shooting a new employee video and wanted to film my office. I guess they want to encourage new employees to start collections of flying pigs, flamingos or bendable, posable figures. I switched from Mothers to Fathers as featured bendies. (Always try to emphasize the holidays. I know I have at least one soldier bendie but I couldn't find him. Memorial Day, you know. I did find Waldo while looking.) Some of my guys are considering a daring trip to Connecticutt to rescue some of Rob's errant Bendos. OK, one gets a little crazy working in that office. I think I've got to pack away some of it and move on. I had no official meetings. I had some informal discussions with people. "I'm not in the position you're in," one manager said. "I'm not in the position I am either," I said. We took the bookkeeper to Granite Cafe for dinner. I was impressed with my lunch the other day. I guess I chose the wrong dinner. The Caesar Salad was indifferent (and I don't get the capers). The spinach and bleu cheese pizza (footnote: with bacon and onions, too) sounded good but turned out to be too salty and just didn't work. I couldn't stop eating it, thoug, thinking the next piece would be better. Gave me a little stomach upset. (Or maybe it was the nachos I made myself for lunch!) I hate to say this when the San Gabriel group is taking out ads to fight the food critic at the Statesman, but I know what I like. I was lazy tonight...newspaper, "Law and Order," and crosswords.
