"Visits always give pleasure: if not in the arrival, then on the departure." Edouard Le Berquier

home again via the highway I decided that since I was feeling sick I would not get up at the crack of dawn to go back to work but, instead, take a sick day. I tumbled out bleary-eyed. My dad was cooking sausage. "I've found that with bacon, I end up with a pan full of grease and nothing to eat," he says. I'm not a breakfast eater. But I ate a bit of scrambled egg and a little sausage. When I couldn't finish it, I offered the remaining to my dad. He ate it. He hates to waste stuff. He put a brand new insurance card in the Buick and filled the truck with boxes of stuff that could stay there until he moves. I should have helped him, but I logged into work and got involved in answering an email from a coworker in Europe. Fortunately, my parents finally capitulated and got tone service on their phone line! Around 9:30AM I headed down the highway, learning the cruise control and tape player's little foibles as I went. I half listened to a novel about a guy chasing an escaped Nazi in occupied Europe and thought about the conference. Something about driving to a destination and returning is so different than flying, being transported through the netherworld of airports. Much more satisfying. When I got home, I set up my laptop and did a little more work. Not much. I was feeling very weary, but relieved because it was over but, more importantly, I was starting to feel healthy again. By the end of the day, I felt pretty frisky for a little while. SuRu came by and she and Forrest and I went to Fonda. They were expecting (and having) huge crowds. They'd even torn down the buffet area and put tables for dining there. University of Texas Graduation. It overwhelmes the area restaurants. And it always comes along around our anniversary. (Which is Monday.) But we fooled them this year. We are going to a private party we set up tomorrow. And Monday we are going to stay in with our friends Deb and Sam and celebrate both our anniversaries even though theirs was May 2. They did get married here so it's special. Two margaritas felt like a good idea. And I even made it all the way through the showing of 'Mrs. Parker and the Vicious Circle' on Laser Disk. But at 10PM I was in bed and shortly after, asleep. I'm amazed how much I've slept lately. Today's image is a fragment of the Berlin Wall. Such fragments are scattered all over the world. There was one at the hotel in Dallas. This one is in New York City not far from the Museum of Modern Art. I have encountered a fragment in Montreal, too. And Berlin, of course. So...I'm making a collection. As you all probably know, the wall was covered with graffiti, much of it quite clever and artistic. There was, probably still is, an outdoor 'museum' of such in Berlin. Of course, some of the sections were being marred with...graffiti. Hmm....
