PIB and donkey skin SuRu says I'm a PIB today. "Person in Black." OK, so I wore a black shirt and black pants. Chili pepper socks, though. Lunch at Texadelphia with SuRu. Because it is nearby a pet store and, as with all sports, eXtreme dog walking requires equipment. We have lights, a new retractable leash for Chalow now. SuRu points out that places with food like Philly Cheese Steaks attract more men. I look around. Seems to be true. The women are mostly at Texas French Bread, where we also thought of going. We took a turn through Pier One after the pet store because I like to see what they are selling these days. We didn't buy anything but they had some pretty cool candle holders and things. Work was OK. I was doing a lot of reading so I listened to some CDs, too. Jazz and Christine Albet and Sara Hickman. Tonight we went to the Elisabet Ney museum where there was a lecture about the upcoming "Cinderella" production by Ballet Austin.. First, the museum is one of my favorite places. Elisabet Ney was a very interesting artist and you've seen her work if you've been to the Capitol. But here are plaster versions of many famous pieces. And the museum was her studio and it's a wonderful old building. One of the people Ms. Ney sculpted was, in fact, Jacob Grimm, of fairy tale fame. At the lecture a professor from St. Ed's talked about the Cinderella stories of which there are hundreds. Some are called 'Donkey Skin' and many involve, pause, incest. The Irish gave the godmother the magical, fairy quality. I couldn't figure out the 'Donkey Skin' part, but I looked it up and the girl hides from the father in a donkey skin costume. A professor from UT talked about Glazunov and Stephen was called to account by the moderator for not doing the Prokofiev version of this ballet and, instead, piecing together Glazunov music. Stephen is brilliant I think. With my limited knowledge of dance and music, I'm not sure I can really appreciate how brilliant. We pretty much skipped the hors d'oeuvres and drinks at the lecture. I did have a glass of wine and Forrest had a coke or something. So we came home and had chicken and spinah salad. I had a couple of Capresso coffees, too. Hope I still go to sleep at a reasonable time. The Texas Hill Country Wine and Food Festival kick off tomorrow night. Must be in good form for that. Watched "Manchurian Candidate" tonight. What an odd movie to be made in 1962. It was yanked after the Kennedy Assassination and didn't see the light of day for over a decade.
