legal eagle and the ferocious black and white dragon

You have to worry about what happens when you die. It's the responsible thing to do. But do you really care? Well, it's the responsible thing to do.

I skipped work for a couple of hours for a brief visit with the lawyers.

Work was the usual battle to do exactly the right useful thing. A number of people seem to be somewhat frustrated with work. Perhaps it's spring causing it. Hence today's snap, sidewalk graffiti on South Congress. I'd long admired it and finally photographed it on my last foray there.

The evening's event was a reception for the mayor's re-election campaign. The audience represented arts organizations in Austin.

The setting was a home beyond description. Forrest and I were discussing with other guests how these homes we get invited to for various fund raisers seem to be in an ever escalating spiral of incredible design and decoration, not to mention size. "It's like this book I had as a kid where each dragon was more ferocious than the one before." Forrest said. This dragon was all black and white with just a few accents of other colors. One guest, herself in a white suit with black accents, said the house followed feng shui.

Sara Hickman performed after a couple of brief speeches. She's incredible. Visibly (six months, she said) pregnant, she is touring all over promoting a new CD ("Spritual Appliances"). . She also has a CD out called "Newborn" which is intended for infants and their parents, but, if the a capella cut she sang from it is any indication, we should all own a copy. Forrest and I were 'necessary angels' for her once. Hadn't thought about her in a while. So Austin, such an original.

Our quite human mayor was heard to say, "Can you imagine building a house like this with no bathrooms?" One of the locked doors he'd tried did turn out to be one.

Went to Zoot for a bite after the party. An earnest guy at the next table explained e-commerce to his rapt companions.

Forrest mentioned in his journal that he thought he might do some fiction. Something about a husband and wife trading jabs in their journals leading to unpleasant results. No art imitating life, I hope. No mayhem for this family. I'd wondered how long it would be before the journal was another form of communication between us. Well, I read we were going somewhere tonight in his journal. "So, where are we going tonight?" We already have a group WEB calendar and e-mail each other. Oh, yeah, and we talk, too. In person.

The day had its fog and drizzle. There was some inside my head, too. Brighter moments ahead, I hope.
