race One awakens to cheers and shouts. I'm still weary and wishing to stay in bed. Dress, though, and watch the runners with the neighbors. Sip a cup of coffee from the Capresso. Eat a bite of salmon, cream chees and capers. Shoot pictures of the racers. "Next year, I hope we get something besides a Vasoline station," I joke. Neighbors laugh. "In what other sport, do you rub Vasoline on your thighs?" a participant asks. The tongue depressors with a dollop of Vasoline go to runners who put it on thighs, inside socks, under knee braces, on lips. "He's amazing," my niece says. She was able to have natrual childbirth. Jack only waited 45 minutes after they got to the hospital. Soon Jack will be watching a hockey game with his dad. Well, sleeping in his dad's arms. Might as well start him early. The kids used some of their Christmas amazon.com money for a scanner. Pictures at 11. Or soon anyway. How to get control of this mess? This room! Every surface covered with stuff. Books, clippings, newspapers, pens, scissors, cameras, disks, cords, pictures. Just start somewhere. Get organized! Just start doing it. The latest thing in benefits is to expand the benefit to pre- or post- events. Let in the riff-raff, expand the money-base. The symphony lets us into the big show (Fine Wine Auction), but this year they have a broader base event. We have signed up for it, too. We walked up to Fonda San Miguel. There was a bubbly Argyle poured from Magnums. Toasty and good. A flight of tasty but inexpensive wines chosen by John Roenigk, of The Austin Wine Merchant. I think the guy is brilliant. Especially liked a 1997 Merlot from New Zealand...a Brancott Reserve Marlborough. There were tasty little snacks. There were men in silly robes. What more could you want? Mariachis, even. Then we walked home. I failed to get my office straight. Fact is...it is even messier than before. But I made birthday cards for a couple of friends...one who will be 60 and one who will be 65.
