meeting

"Let's all introduce ourselves."

"I'm Linda Ball; I go to meetings."

So it makes for a boring life.

I dodged an out-of-town business trip today. Yeah!

A few days ago we got an invitation for this $250/head Art Ball. It's a big deal event in a town full of events. The party is Saturday. Forrest called the day we got it and was told there was a 'waiting list' he could get on but 'he would probably get in'. He demurred. We couldn't figure out if this was incompetence or a high form of elitism where they sell a bunch of tables to the likes of Dell and Hicks and then, if there are any seats left, send invitations. Then maybe the important people review this 'waiting list' for suitability and pick who is good enough. Funny. We made other plans. Forrest did drop a quizzical note to a lady known for giving large amounts of money but exhibiting little elitism. The result was calls offering free tickets. We are sticking to our plan of using a certificate to dine at Ella's, purchased at some other charity event, and taking Forrest's parents and his newly discovered cousin, Robert, out.

Went to Brio Vista in the evening with customers. We talked work a little, but spent most of the time discussing world travels. The salesman was a guy who said he and a buddy traveled the world with a bottle of tequila for good health. I said I preferred a bottle of cheap brandy and a bottle of Tabasco. I then gave my story about how Tabasco Sauce can kill cholera bacteria...in a test tube anyway. One of the customers has driven around Europe without the benefit of so much language as 'Haben Sie ein Zimmer Frei?' Good patter. Nothing I'd rather discuss than travel. Except for the inside airplane and airport parts which, as my readers know, makes my blood pressure rise, my ears ring and my bones ache just to think about it!

Food was good. I had duck with a risotta and figs. (Stewart said he used dried figs but they were great.) The Syrah by the glass, though, was a little gone. I didn't say anything because of customers, but the second glass had more residue than an old Bordeaux. That baby was not opened this day. Restaurants should watch this when they offer wine by the glass. For $8 or $9 a glass...you deserve freshly opened wine or a proper storage. Definitely go to this restaurant and applaude them for matching a wine to every course...but insist on a good glass. (Should have mentioned this to Stewart on the way out.)

Decided to read in my chair. Feel asleep in three seconds. I'm not totally back on my time zone.

Today's picture is another puzzle. Guess the place and the year. Hints abound. Well, that's a wrap for today.

For now hath time made me his numbering clock;
